Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have a Master’s of Science Degree in Collaborative Special Education. I have obtained highly qualified teaching certification in Special Education for Alabama and Texas. I have been trained in Project Read. Project Read is a viable and effective intervention for any at risk learner (students with dyslexia, learning disability and/or special needs) allowing students to master the symbol system of language in reading, written, and oral expression. During my 10 years of teaching I have always implemented a token economy and increased appropriate social skills in students with Autism, behavior intervention plan or behavioral problems.

Aspergers

I have attended Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center. The Training addresses professionals who work with students diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it consisted of 40 hours of professional development provided over a five-day period. Training was conducted at Glenwood and limited to a maximum of 20 attendees per week. Sixteen hours of instruction was provided, utilizing various professional staff, consultants and instructional resources. The remaining 24 hours was spent in direct application of learning, as I both observed and interacted with students with ASD. In my 10 year teaching career I have taught over 15 students with ASD.
