About Sara

Bio

I have been unofficially tutoring others since my early days in school. In college, I was often called upon to help those who were struggling in the class. I have been homeschooling my children for over five years, and I have taught my oldest from early elementary to Algebra I. I have been teaching science at our co-op for two years and am teaching Algebra to the high school group this year.

The main thing that I love about teaching/tutoring is watching those "light-bulb" moments when the student has grasped the new and/or difficult concept. Those moments are wonderful!

I love math! We will break down the problem to its basic steps and talk about why each step is important. I will do my best to answer all the "why" questions I can. Understanding why and how each problem is done builds a strong foundation for higher math in the future, not to mention the ability to use math as a life skill throughout adulthood.

Please contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule a tutoring session.

Not only do I have experience helping fellow students during my own education, but I have also been homeschooling my children since 2011. I began homeschooling my daughter in the middle of her 3rd grade year, and I have been homeschooling my younger son since kindergarten. In our homeschool coop, I have volunteered as an elementary science teacher for two school years and a high school math teacher for one. We are an eclectic family, having used multiple types and brands of curriculum. My goal has always been to encourage learning. Those "light bulb moments" are beautiful!

Algebra 1

I love Algebra 1, and I have always found the process of solving equations to be fun and interesting. I've had to relearn a few things since I began teaching my own children, but the process has taught me even more than I was never taught in school, including some neat tricks.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Pre algebra is actually my favorite math. I have always found it to be fun. I recently taught pre algebra to my oldest child, so I have basically had a refresher course. I enjoy breaking down problems to help the student develop an understanding of the basic concepts. We will identify problem areas and attempt to resolve the underlying issues.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I love math! I also love learning new things. I have always been good at math, but I have learned a lot more from teaching it to my children. The ACT measures what you know. The better you know the material, the more quickly you can answer the questions. This allows you a little more time to figure out the answers to problems you may not know as well. In addition to being familiar with the math concepts, a student should be able to use deductive reasoning and the process of elimination. With these strategies, you are sure to improve your score.
