My name is Jessica and I am 24 years old living in Montgomery, Alabama. I have tutoring experience with a government supported company based in Florida. During that tutoring experience I worked with six students, ages ranging from 8-14 in subjects such as reading and math. I have also worked with students who have had disabilities ranging from speech impediments to cerebal palsy. I feel that one-on-one teaching can be a very effective learning supplement outside the classroom which is why I am so passionate about tutoring. I am a full-time student at Auburn University of Montgomery due to graduate in Spring 09 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Before attending AUM, I attended Troy University of Montgomery where I received an Associate of Science degree with concentrations in Psychology. I have experience working in a day care environment working in classes whose age groups ranged from 6 weeks to 13 years and feel I have the knowledge and understanding of the various emotional, educational, and psychological needs of each age group. I am also a mother and have a great respect for parents who want to see their children excel. I feel that my educational, personal, and professional experiences have developed my skills to be an effective tutor as well as an educator. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
