I taught middle school and high school English and Creative Writing. I would say my heart's desire is to teach students how to become excellent oral and written communicators. I believe English to be one of the most important subjects a student should master. Throughout college, these skills will be of utmost importance in succeeding. As a matter of fact, they will be the ticket to a successful career in whatever field you choose. I proofread and submitted the finished copy of a book for a non profit organization, "Free Me to Live". It was chosen for publication by a major publishing company. Believe me, the manuscript was full of errors and required excellence and diligence on my part. I have done public speaking for a non profit organization for fund raising purposes. I even spoke before the Alabama Senate. I love tutoring because I love learning. I love seeing students enjoy the learning process and not by doing a lot of "busy" work. I also taught my children at home through the 8th grade. They were 2 grades ahead of their classes when they entered public school.
I have had experience with teaching. I have had experience with assisting college and high school students with writing research papers. I enjoy writing and journaling. I hate seeing students reach 10th grade and not be able to construct sentences and/or express themselves in written form. My children call me a "learning nerd", and I consider it a compliment. I consider myself a lifelong learner. I would attend college for the rest of my life if I could. That's how much I love it. As a matter of fact, I have received two B.S. degrees. One of them is Language Arts. The other is in Health Information Management. In addition, I took classes in Elementary Education and in Nursing after that. In all I have attended college for 8 years. I do love learning, and I do love teaching others to love to learn as well.
You would enjoy meeting with me and working with me. I am very high energy and enthusiastic. I will not quit until I succeed at getting you to your desired goal. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught my two children at home for 8 years. I taught them to read through phonics. I also took Teaching Math and Teaching Science in Elementary Education in college in addition to receiving my Language Arts degree and teaching certification in Secondary Education.
I have a B.S. degree in Language Arts (encompassing English, journalism, speech, and drama).
I taught the GED Preparation Class at The Developing Alabama Youth Program for one year. I taught students with varying degrees of literacy at the same time. I have two B.S. degrees. One is in Communication Arts, and the other is in Health Information Management.
I taught my 2 children to write in cursive form at home. They were at home with me learning through a curriculum called "A Reason to Write". They are the only kids in their high school classes now who use cursive handwriting. The remainder of the students print everything. Teaching handwriting is very important as it drastically speeds up note taking in high school and especially in college as test content mostly comes from lectures. I am also a retired school teacher.
I received my certification in Medical Billing and Coding from Jefferson State Community College in 2010.
I taught my children at home for 8 years. Both of them learned phonics in preparation for reading. I taught school (English, grammar, vocabulary, etc.) before teaching my children at home. My children entered public school two years ahead of their classmates.
I have taught all three of my children to read through phonics. I enjoy reading and love to teach. I have proofread and edited a book that was chosen for publication for a non profit organization, "Free Me to Live".
