My love of tutoring comes from my desire to impact future generations. Throughout my years in school, I was lucky to have teachers who helped me to love learning. They accommodated my curiosity, encouraged my strengths by giving me individualized projects, and helped me develop a deep love of learning by teaching me on an individual level. For these reasons, I love to tutor young students so that they can develop the same love for learning and excel in and out of the classroom.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from my high school and maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout college and graduate school. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. Through my graduate work, I was able to study child development on a graduate level. I also have experience working with children with psychological, emotional, and educational disorders. Most recently I have worked as a counselor and full time nanny and feel my education and work experience help me to be a great tutor.
I love to read and believe that reading is an important foundation for every child. on the ACT, I scored a perfect 36 for reading comprehension. As a tutor, I never want to frustrate a child who is struggling with reading as they may come to dislike reading altogether. Instead, I try to meet each student where they are and encourage them to learn at their own pace. Vocabulary and writing are two things that I love to teach. Growing up I participated in every spelling bee I could. I loved to study new words and use them to write stories or narratives. This foundation helped me to be successful writing on a graduate level and now allows me to utilize my knowledge as a tutor.
Handwriting and spelling are two things I have taught as a volunteer on an elementary level. I like to use toys, activities, and games to engage students in learning and practicing handwriting and spelling.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
