I have a solid background in statistics, economics, finance and mathematics through differential calculus. I am also very conversant with American and European history. I'm good at explaining difficult concepts from a number of angles and always love to see a mind "get it." You're never too young or too old to learn!

I was raised in Montgomery, AL and attended the Montgomery Academy where I was the class valedictorian. I obtained an honors degree in Comparative Military and Diplomatic History from Princeton University in 1988, and a Master's in International Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS - School of Advanced International Studies - in 1996. I've lived overseas both in Europe and Asia while serving as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force where my background in European and military history was directly relevant. My civilian career has been centered in finance with several Fortune 500 companies (Siemens, Ernst & Young, General Electric). In these positions I have utilized my mathematical and economic training extensively in real-world business applications such as budgeting, forecasting, product development, and scenario analysis. I have often found that imparting such concepts to students becomes much more meaningful and effective when they can see actual applications. My experiences have led me to conclude that a broad education in various disciplines is the surest means to economic success and personal fulfillment.

Every child deserves the opportunities the world affords, but maximizing those opportunities requires basic skills and knowledge, whether it be mathematics or historical awareness. I bring to my tutoring sessions a host of practical applications for which mastery of the subject discipline is necessary in the real world; and, I hope, a true joy for learning for learning's sake. I've often found that having that real world example often ignites the student's interest in what would otherwise be just another dull exercise with little relation to the student's particular interests. I have both academic and extensive practical experience with econometric analysis. Past professional positions have required the use of generalized multiple linear regression modeling, hedonic regressions, and the analysis of time-series data with lagged variable effects and auto-correlation analysis. Specific modeling areas included investment portfolio analysis, product sales forecasting, loan and deposit modeling, project finance modeling, and country-level macroeconomic modeling.

Knowledgeable, prepared, and patient tutor.

John thoroughly explained probabilities and distributions: the math, usage, connection to each other, practical application, graphical depictions, and realistic examples. I left feeling confident that I would select the correct formula for the given scenarios!

Look No Further

I met with four tutors this week and was starting to feel hopeless at grasping the material. After meeting with John, I am no longer in fear of not passing my class. His skill for breaking down the material is second to none.

Knowledgeable, patient, organized and logical.

John is without a doubt one of the most BRILLIANT tutors that I have had the pleasure of working with. His explanations are BEYOND clear and concise, he bends over backwards in order to make sure that the student at hand understands the material, and will re-explain concepts in a multitude of ways in order to ensure that the student walks away feeling confident about the material being assessed. He has helped me to grasp a thorough understanding of fields such as statistics, economics and other areas of mathematics, and if it had not been for him, I would not have excelled to the point that I did regarding such studies to say the least. (I have aced every class that John guided me through). Furthermore, when taking part in sessions with John, it is refreshing to know that he will show up prepared, having constructed models and graphs beforehand and will even direct you towards highly useful/external resources if needed. That being said, if you have the chance, DO NOT HESITATE to take advantage of his services. The tutoring you will receive here will prove to be extremely beneficial, and the results will exceed your expectations without a doubt. (Thank you John).

Knowledgeable and Easy to understand

Worked with me on Calculus and Statistics needed as backbone for Econometrics. Explained in a way that was easy to understand and use with this class. I will be scheduling weekly sessions for this semester.

extremely helpful

John went the extra mile for me and had all of the economics problems I had questions on completed and checked before our lesson, so I could have more time reviewing the concepts with him. Had an amazing lesson and look forward to working with him again.
