About Kenneth

I have a professional background in Information Technology and Business. I did tutoring in college for elementary and middle schoolers, so I understand that everyone learns at a different pace and has to be taught different. I am a graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. degree in Business, minor in Computer Science, and specializing in Business Information Technology.

I specialize in tutoring in Math and Information Technology. I provide tutoring for Math ranging from elementary math up to Algebra 3 and Trigonometry. I provide tutoring for Information Technology and Computers including, but not limited to networking, programming, database interaction, debugging, and Unix/Linux operating systems.

Math is something that is used everyday by everyone. I believe that learning Math is a necessity to be successful in any career that a student desires to strive for. My greatest strength and knowledge is in the Information Technology field. I currently work IT Consultant. My duties include working with operating systems including Solaris and Linux, being able to understand exception messages, and troubleshoot. I am also proficent several scripting and programming languages and working with databases. My expertise includes, but is not limited to PHP, MySQL, Drupal, Bash, Oracle, Sybase, HTML, CSS, and Java.

Policies: I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I will be willing to make up sessions if the cancellation is required due to extenuating circumstances. I will only accept payment through WyzAnt as it protects you and me. Payment information has to be on file before a tutoring session will be scheduled.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

During college, I took math courses ranging from Algebra 2 to Calculus 1. As part of my high school coursework, I was in the honors Algebra 1 class. As part of my high school career, I took Algebra 1 through Calculus 1.

Computer Programming

I currently work as an IT Consultant. Part of my duties include creating and maintaining automated reports for senior management, maintaining email notifications bash and PL/SQL scripts to ensure that my company upholds their contractual agreement with the client. I also diagnose application errors, which includes understanding exception and error messages from the application's logs. I also program with Drupal and PHP as a side business. I hold a Computer Science minor and Business Information Technology major from the University of Alabama.

Computer Science

I have a Computer Science minor from the University of Alabama. While in college, I worked for the University's doing development work. I currently work as an IT Consultant as a Production Support Analyst. My duties include creating and maintaining automated reports with SQL and bash scripts, diagnosing application issues, and providing analysis for developer on items that should be implemented in future releases.

General Computer

I currently work as an IT Consultant. Linux

I work with Linux-based operating systems on a regular basis. Currently have Ubuntu server edition install on my personal computer for the development work that I do for my small business. In addition, I use linux-in my full-time job for supporting web-based applications.

Networking (Computer)

I have a minor in Computer Science, which included taking database, computer networking, and computer programming courses. I currently work as an IT Consultant. Part of my duties includes that I be able to identify network issues so that the dedicated network team can address them. My home network includes network switches so that the devices and computers that do not move are connected to the network via ethernet instead of wireless, since too many wireless devices can slow down a network.

PHP

I am currently responsible for maintaining and supporting Drupal based websites. The support I provided includes installing module and Drupal core updates as well as creating custom modules to meet my client's website request for specific functionality. I participate on Drupal forums and report bug and defects when they are detected in the modules that routinely use.

SQL

I am a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Computer Science minor specializing in Business Information Technology. As part of my duties as a Production Support Analyst, I have to run queries on databases to troubleshoot issues for the applications that I support. I'm also responsible for maintaining automated reports that are sent to upper management. These reports query data in from a database and results in a HTML format for easy viewing.

Violin

Though grade and high school, I played the violin and guitar as an extra-curricular activity. Each year starting with 4th grade, I played in the city's All-City Music Festival. Auditions were required for participation in this event. I currently play the violin as recreational activity.

Web Design

I currently do web design as a side hobby. While in college, I took several courses that utilized web languages including HTML and CSS. In addition, I worked at the University IT office as a student developer.
