I am a young and energetic professional just starting out in the teaching field. During my undergraduate career, I student taught in 3 different classrooms (Pre-K, K, and 2) for a total of 1 1/2 years of experience. I was responsible for lead teaching positions within each field, ranging from a week to a total of 3 months. Now that I have graduated from the University of Cincinnati with my Bachelor's degree, I am attending Bowling Green State University in their online program for Classroom Technology, which is their Master's program. This exposure to technology will benefit me greatly with the ever-evolving world that is integrated with technology everywhere you look.
I have experience with students of all ages from Pre-K through 5th grade, which is where I am also certified to teach. I also have experience being a substitute in classrooms from K through 12th grade. This exposure allows me to understand students of all ages.
Although I have not been with WyzAnt long, I believe that I am a great tutor. I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves interaction between the tutor and the student, as well as the student and the material. I feel that students learn best if they are utilizing their skills rather than just completing straight paper-pencil activities or work. My philosophy is what makes me a great teacher and helper to students that may be struggling in one subject or another. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had experience in all subject areas of K-6th grade, including the core subjects of Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Grammar is one of my favorite subjects. I enjoy reading and searching for the best phrase that fits any topic. I have experience with teaching about adjectives, nouns, and verbs at length, as well as capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
The readings we completed throughout my student teaching experiences have allowed me to become competent in understanding reading passages and what they truly mean. In my internship, I was in charge of the reading series and had to continuously come up with higher order thinking questions for students to answer to demonstrate understanding.
Each week, I was in charge of the spelling words with my students in all student teaching experiences. We discussed the various word patterns associated with each spelling word, which combines with phonics studies.
