Hello! My goal in life has always been to motivate and inspire students to be the best they can be and enjoy their educational experience! Today's emphasis seems to be on scoring well on tests. My theory is that if students enjoy learning and accept new ways of learning, they have a better opportunity to score well on tests. I often use association methods to memorize important facts/figures.
I'm a former Music teacher and Elementary Education teacher. I've been privately tutoring for about 5 years. Great satisfaction comes from seeing the light bulb go on in a student's eyes. It's so important for teachers and tutors to realize every student learns differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. I issue several tests at the beginning to determine what styles of learning a student prefers and ask many questions to see what their hobbies and interests are. If a tutor can incorporate the student's interest in lesson plans, they are much more likely to remain interested in the learning process!
I specialize in incorporating the student's interests/hobbies into their lessons & working with their strengths to overcome any weaknesses.
I have been in the Music field for over 40 years. I began playing piano at age 8 and moved onto Flute in 6th grade. I was 1st chair and section leader for 3 years and won the coveted Band Medal my Senior year. I was the first person to receive a full tuition/fee Music scholarship at JSU in 1975. I retained that scholarship for all 4 years of college. I currently work with the ELHS Band as well as their 6th grade Music program. "Music was my first love, & it will be my last!"
My promise to students is that they will enjoy our lessons together, their grades will improve IF they work with me to do them, and they will have access to new and different ways of learning. Parents or tutors alone cannot make a better student. It takes effort on the student's part as well. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
