About Gary

I will help you learn the basics of Microsoft Office 2013 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Project). I can help you to produce high quality business documents, resumes, spreadsheets, presentations, and schedules. You'll drive the keyboard during the learning process. We'll create products from scratch as well as reproduce example products that I'll provide. We can also create specific types of products you may have a current need to learn. No boring and slow paced lesson books. We might also hone your writing skills in the process.

I'm a retired military officer who now supports the Department of Defense at Redstone Arsenal and volunteers with a local non-profit. I have over 20 years of experience using Microsoft Office products to create professional products for government, business, and non-profit uses. I currently use Microsoft Office 2013 products. Let's get started. I'm available nights and weekends. We can meet at the library, Starbucks, etc. in the greater Huntsville area using a library computer, your laptop, or my laptop.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is an e-mail program that creates, files, and stores emails. Users can create and send emails, reply to or forward emails, and organize emails into folders. Outlook also allows users to create a calendar, make appointments, and create meeting invitations. I've used Microsoft Outlook in my daily job for over twenty years and currently use MS Outlook 2013.

Microsoft Project

I have nearly 8 years experience in the use of MS Project to create complex Gantt charts and track project completion. Skills include laying out project tasks, linking subordinate tasks, setting predecessor tasks, marking status of task completion, setting Gantt chart views (e.g. weeks, months, quarters), listing required resources, and identifying the critical path. I also know how to effectively copy the Gantt chart into a Powerpoint presentation file for the purpose of providing project schedule status to management. a
