About Patricia

My name is Trisha H. I have worked within and alongside Deaf people for the past 25 years. It all began when I fell in love with a 5 year old Deaf girl. I wanted to learn to speak with her and did not have the skill. I had a desire earlier but had no motivation to follow through. Meeting this young girl was the motivation I needed to succeed. I began taking classes, learning, and began to use what I learned to build a relationship with this sweet young Deaf girl.

Ultimately my husband and two daughters began to learn as well. After a couple of years of learning we moved to another state to work in an international deaf ministry called, Silent Word. There we experienced 5 years of immersion within the Deaf Community. For the next 20 years our family would serve in Deaf ministry and within the community of Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons.

I have served as a professional freelance interpreter with several agencies both locally and nationally. I love working with Deaf people. I love teaching the language, but most importantly I love sharing what I have learned regarding the Deaf Culture. The language is beautiful, their culture is beautiful as well.

I love instilling a love of the language and culture to those who are interested in learning and growing.

I love and respect not only the Deaf person, but also their language and their culture. With that, I believe I am able to instill that in the lives of those who are willing to be open to a new language and culture.

I'd love to communicate with anyone interested in moving forward in their acquisition of not only language, but also the ability to use it in the real world of the Deaf Culture and Community.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

There are people who lose their hearing later in life. They aren't born deaf. As a result they have limited language skill to navigate their new found limitation. It doesn't need to be so. I am a nationally certified interpreter. I can teach them a language if they are willing to learn. I hold a certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. I have 25 years of experience.
