About John

I have the B.S. in Math from the University of Memphis, a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Christian Brothers University, Memphis, and an M.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

I did the course work for a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech in Atlanta and took several graduate courses at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. I was elected a Fellow in The Boeing Co. the first so honored in Huntsville.

I worked in Aerospace engineering for over 40 years. I taught courses to engineers in math and engineering often in my career. I have taught High School Math in Tennessee and also for Appleton in Huntsville. I belong to the American Mathematical Association, The American Mathematical Society, and SIAM. I am a life member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Because Math and Engineering are my hobbies as well as my profession I have stayed current after my retirement.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I have over forty years in differential equations in my work as a Technical Fellow in Guidance Control and Navigation in the Aerospace industry. These disciplines are dependent on a thorough knowledge of Differential Equations.

Linear Algebra

I worked as an aerospace guidance and control engineer for over forty years using Linear Algebra very frequently. I have a BS in math and an MS in Engineering Mechanics.

Logic

I have a BS in math and an MS in engineering mechanics.
I worked over forty in Aerospace Engineering using logic as in finite state machines to design computer software.

MATLAB

I worked as an aerospace engineer for over forty years using Matlab to solve problems. I have a BS in math and an MS in Engineering Mechanics.

Precalculus

I have used calculus for over forty years. In this case it is important to understand and establish a rapport with the student and determine where he is having difficulties and work toward alleviating them. PreCalculus can be a daunting subject at the high school senior level.
