Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with students that have ADD/ADHD for 20 years. I know they have shorter attention spans and need more breaks. They also have to be given fewer tasks to accomplish before moving on to the next one. I tailor my approach to fit each students needs.

Aspergers

I worked in the school system in a one on one situation with two different students with Aspergers. The first was a child in kindergarten for three years and the second was began in fifth grade and continue for three years until the family moved out of state. I know the special needs of these children and enjoyed the challenge.

Autism

I have four years in an autism unit in middle school. I worked one on one and inclusion. I am aware of teaching strategies and limitations of each student. I am willing to change approach to meet the students needs.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have 20 years experience with middle and elementary school. I also know the emotional areas that this age group is facing. I am able to deal with these and use teaching strategies I have acquired.

Special Needs

I have worked in special ed for 20 years, including one-on-one and inclusion. I have worked with elementary and middle school students in Tennessee and in Huntsville. I am patient and tailor my teaching to the individual student.
