Patten University (Psychology)
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Patten University with a 3.78 GPA and made the Dean's list. I also graduated from Las Positas College with dual AA degrees in Psychology and Social Studies with honors. I currently home school my two children using the Classical Education and Charlotte Mason approach.
I handle the planning and organization of my children's curriculum. I monitor their progress and potential to ensure they master every area we are studying. I tailor their education to their individual learning style and go at the pace they work best. We do not move onto the next skill until they have mastered the skill they are learning. I am also a Classical Conversations director. I encourage the tutors, parents, and children in the program to use the classical model of education and provide the company with contact information for the families in the program.
I also provide classical tutoring methodologies, policies and conduct rules to the tutors and parents. I am a trained Foundation and Essential tutor through their program. I also help tutor the classes and manage a classroom of 8 kids from ages 5-12. I teach new grammar and review grammar, as well as music, science, and art. The most important job of the program is to model to parents how to teach their kids at home. I served as the Children's Ministry leader at my church in California for 2.5 years and was the VBS director for 3 years. Here I implemented a new curriculum that would build on each other throughout the program from ages 3 to 12 while meeting each learning style. I led and organized skills for the administration and management of all activities and classes. I also managed and supervised the children’s ministry classes.
My work history has taught me to tailor kids education that meet their educational learning style and make learning fun. It has taught me to teach kids from all ages and walks to life and to know that every child can learn and have a love to learn. My main goal isn't just to teach kids to pass a test but to get them excited to learn new things and so to instill a lifelong love of learning.
In high school I wrote articles for our local newspaper, went to State for writing competitions and was on forensics team. English has always been one of my favorite subjects and I thoroughly enjoy it.
History is very important so we can learn from the mistakes and victories of people from the past. Each event history has an important lesson we can apply to our lives today. There are a lot of ways to make history come alive to kids. Yes there is a lot of memorization but using songs, games, and activities can make it fun. Instead of reading it because one is forced to its enjoyable to read it as real life, thrilling stories that really happened!
It would be an honor to join you on academic adventure. I believe in teaching students how to learn for themselves and to have a love for learning. I hope we connect and I look forward to hearing back from you. Please contact me so we can schedule your lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
