About Christopher

Hello students! My name is Chris M. and I have been a math tutor for several years now. I have experience tutoring subjects ranging from basic algebra to differential equations and Newtonian physics. I have always had an intuition that helped guide me in my math/physics classes but I quickly found that when intuition failed me I had to find different ways of thinking about the problems at hand. This skill of looking at problems from different angles, along with a far bit of patience, has been the foundation of my tutoring. I have tutored at my university in the position of a remedial math tutor as well as in the higher levels of mathematics so I believe I am a well rounded tutor.

One of my favorite things about tutoring is building a student's confidence to do a problem by his/herself. That is my main goal. I will also point out a physical or real world application to any problem every chance I get. I believe that it is so crucial for students to understand where this math they are learning is applicable and to attempt to apply it to the real world. Otherwise I am giving you some incredible tools to solve daunting problems without giving you the chance to solve those problems!

I tutored remedial math at my university for about 2 years. Subjects involved ranged from adding fractions to solving systems of equations. I value this time and experience above all else because it taught me patience.

I have tutored physics for my university as well. This was an excellent experience for me. Applying math skills to real world problems can be daunting and I learned a lot about the value of confidence building in my students. On my own I have tutored in almost every math class I have taken. I am proficient in the entire Calculus sequence, Differential Equations, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Combinatorics, Proof Writing, Linear Algebra, Trigonometry, Real Analysis, and Abstract Algebra. I am especially good at Linear Algebra as I have been doing independent research in the topic with a fellow student and a professor of JSU.

I am a very proficient math and physics tutor with years of experience and I encourage you to contact me no matter what level of student you are.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

Differential Equations was one of my favorite math classes because I love to see applications. I was ahead of my class for most of the semester when I took the class so my professor encouraged me to look at the applications sections of our textbook and that helped me to gain a stronger understanding of how powerful differential equations are. I will be able to tutor students who are struggling with the fundamentals but also the students who want to look deeper into the subject. Also, my physics classes have kept my ability to solve differential equations sharp.

Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra is by far the topic I am most comfortable in. I have used it to help teach Algebra students how to easily solve a system of equations and I have tutored students on the relationship between the four fundamental subspaces. I have been doing independent study/research with a professor at JSU for 2 semesters now in the subjects of Linear Algebra and Graph Theory. I understand that what most students will need is the material covered in a first semester Linear Algebra class and I am very comfortable tutoring those topics.
