Hello! I am an ESL teacher with over a decade of experience. My career has led me through academic institutions in Japan, South Korea, and the United Statees where I have taught students from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. My learners have included typical public school students, adult learners, recent arrivals from Latin America, and even North Korean defectors.

I have experience in teaching English grammar, reading, writing, conversation, term paper editing, and test preparation for TOEFL, TOEIC, and SAT reading and writing. I am proficient in both Japanese and Korean. I am currently working on improving my Spanish as well. Familiarity with multiple languages helps me to better understand and address difficulties experienced by my English language learners. I am also happy to tutor Japanese and Korean, but my Spanish still needs some work. I have an extensive background in curriculum development and lesson creation which has enabled me to design lessons that are entertaining and productive for students who may not be so interested in learning English. It's amazing what students can accomplish if the material isn't completely boring! :)

I completed the TESOL Master's program at Stony Brook University in 2018 where I also completed my New York State ESOL teaching certification. My areas of graduate study have included linguistics, phonetics, phonology, English grammar, TESOL methodology, Common Core ELA, and K-12 education.

My other credentials include a BA in Asian Studies focusing on the Japanese language and culture, International TEFL certification (ITTT), Korean Language certification (TOPIK) , and 10 years in ESL/EFL education in classroom, small group, and one-on-one settings.

Thank you for checking out my profile. I am looking forward to some enjoyable lessons!

I have also worked as a one-on-one tutor for North Korean defectors and have experience working with students who have severely limited English language ability. Patient and Easy-to-Understand Tutor

Zachery is a great Japanese tutor. He is very knowledgable, organised and easy to understand. He quickly found out where I needed to restart my Japanese lessons and was able to clearly explain grammar points that had confused me when I was trying to teach myself. He also found a way to incorporate my love of j-pop into the lesson. :)
