My grandfather wanted me to be a nurse and tried to pay my way through college, but at 17 years old I was not interested. I began my healthcare career in the late 1990’s working at Cherokee County Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Much to my surprise I fell in love with my patients and wanted to do more. I moved to the Pensacola, Florida area where I worked as a medical assistant for the next 10 years. I finally went back to school and became an RN but I knew from the beginning that I wanted to teach. I took a job working at a small hospital but wasn’t happy, I wanted to teach nursing so I went back to school and got my BSN in 2010 and then my MSN from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL in 2013. I thought I was done with school but I was sadly mistaken. I am currently working on my EdD in Education through Northcentral University. I hope to graduate in 2017.
I have taught nursing in the LPN program and the ADN program at two different proprietary schools in Pensacola, Florida before moving home to Alabama to be near family and was the Nursing Program Chair of a proprietary school in Madison, AL until it closed. I have worked in Medical Surgical, ICU, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Family Practice.
In my “spare time” when I am not preparing for class or writing papers for my EdD program, I like to spend time with my two girls, Kayla and Amy and our 14 year old dog Romeo, walk, garden, and refinish furniture with my daughter that we have found in thrift stores and such.
I have a passion for nursing and teaching. I want my students to understand why, not just answer questions to "pass the test". I try multiple techniques to help make the topic real so the student can relate and fit the pieces together and make sense of it all. I understand that not all students learn the same way and will work with them to find out what works best.
Please let me know if I can help you in any way to get through a course, prepare for exams, or study for the NCLEX. I am here to help and want to see you become the successful nurses I know you can be. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
