University of Alabama, Huntsville
My name is Haley, and I am a senior at the University of Alabama in Huntsville finishing my bachelor's degree in biological science. I have experience tutoring other students in biology, genetics, algebra, and English. I have also done extensive lab work in marine biology, marine mammals, developmental biology, and ecology. My current research at UAH involves studying the effects of a waste source on the diversity of diatoms and diatom ecology in the Flint River System of North Alabama. While biology and marine biology are my areas of interest, they are not my only strong points. I have also done tutoring in algebra I, algebra II, English, grammar, philosophy, most elementary subjects (preschool through 6th), and even music (voice). My GPA in all of these areas (in high school and college) is above 3.5 on the 4.0 scale system, and my background in music includes 18 years of experience through church, high-school and the concert choir at UA-Huntsville. I have great communication skills and love teaching, as I hope to become a professor in the biological sciences one day. I am patient, and I present material in an organized fashion that makes learning much easier. I enjoy doing volunteer work on campus and in the community as well. I love helping others, and teaching seems to be a great way for me to focus on that while also enjoying myself.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored my little brother and cousins in math, science, and English throughout elementary school. I have also volunteered many times with my mother's preschool classes. I relate to children very well and have fun methods of teaching that help to keep their attention.
I will be graduating in May with a degree in biology, and have spent many hours tutoring fellow students in various science classes. In addition to biology, I have done well in calculus, English, history, and all of the physical sciences. I have lead many study sessions for these classes throughout my undergraduate degree. My GPA in all of these areas is currently above 3.5 on the 4.0 scale system. I am qualified in all elementary subjects to provide help and guidance.
I have lead many study groups during my time at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in subjects from science to English. I am very organized, have great study habits, and my GPA reflects this.
I have been in choirs (church, junior-high, high-school) since I was three years old. I took vocal lessons and sight reading lessons from my father starting at age 7. In high-school, I was a part of the show choir for 4 years where I developed my sight-reading skills and gained a better ear. At the University of Alabama in Huntsville, I auditioned and became part of the UAH Concert Choir. I have a great ear for vocals and can offer my help in improving any aspects of it.
I began practicing yoga in high-school, and then took beginning yoga at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. I loved it, and later took the intermediate class to improve my skills. I now attend weekly classes and have taught friends and family the benefits of yoga. I am familiar with Vinyasa yoga, Hatha yoga, and power yoga.
