I am an Academic Coach who specializes in ADHD and other focused related issues. I completed an Educational specialist degree at Liberty University specializing in Teaching and Learning in May 2011; became a Certified Life Coach in May 2013, and a Certified ADHD Consultant in July 2018. My educational philosophy is a combination of Bloom's Taxonomy and the Taxonomy of the Significant learning Experience (SLE); believing that learning must allow for repetition and application of that which was taught so that information moves from mere memorization to actual learning. The role of the educator must go beyond the responsibility of dispensing knowledge and tests, to creating an environment which would inspire and motivate others to learn, which can only occur in an environment of mutual respect and a basic belief that all students are capable of learning. This is what forces the educator to discover the method in which the learner will be the most successful. Overall, education is a balancing act whereby educators provide a positive influence, leading and guiding students down a path of discovery; while at the same time ensuring that learners obtain the knowledge, skills and moral development necessary to positively contribute to society.
I have extensive experience in the following areas: Elementary Education, Algebra, Biology, Physical Science, study skills including time management, goal setting, and organization, Microsoft Office - word, excel and PowerPoint, Public Speaking, and Communications. While instructing in GED preparation, I have also taught coursework in reading and essay writing. In addition, I work with individuals of all ages with ADHD, teaching them and their caregivers strategies which would increase learning efficiency.
Helps not just my son, but shows me how to help him too
Ms. Karen is a wonderful tutor! My son was struggling in 2nd grade. Homework was a battle of wills and it felt like my son could not get his test scores to show how much he actually knew. He was easily frustrated and starting to get very discouraged. Ms. Karen started with reading and giving him tools to focus. By the end of the year, he was slightly above grade level and we've started working on math too. My son always finishes the session feeling positive and I feel armed with games/strategies/help for the rest of the week. I couldn't be more grateful for Ms. Karen and I would highly recommend her!Katie, 64 lessons with KarenTutor responded:

Relatability is such a huge factor for my kid...Coach Karen is personable, concise, efficient, and flexible. We are an ADHD family who plays travel hockey so her ability and willingness to flex with us has been priceless. We just had a session (organization skills and social studies test prep) from a hotel room in Vegas (we live on east coast). My son said that he had no idea how easier things can be with just getting organized, using short-cuts with focused and directed attention to the stuff that actually matters. I have a feeling this will be a long-term relationship as long as she will have us.Kim, 8 lessons with KarenTutor responded:
Very Patient and nice
Karen was very nice and patient with my daughter. They worked on handwriting, sight words, and fun games to help my daughter stay on task. Her methods are very effective.Brittnie, 4 lessons with Karen

Great first session!
Karen M. is working with my soon to be second grader for math. She has only had one visit with my daughter but the first session was phanominal. We are looking forward to more sessions over the summer break.Denise, 3 lessons with Karen
ADHD and organization
Karen was really helpful. My son has ADHD and very unorganized. She had great ideas on how to start helping him focus on task. It's very difficult to understand how ADHD kids think. And Karen did a great job teaching us how.Teresa, 18 lessons with Karen
Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor
Grandson has been struggling with math... in one session, he is now motivated to do more. He said his first session with Ms. Karen was "Awesome!" We are looking forward to his continued progress.Gwendolyn, 23 lessons with Karen
Very Patient tutor with amazing defusing tools
This is my son's first lesson with Mrs. Karen. He was reluctant to even see her. Once they were introduced; he still remained with a more negative outlook over the whole "thing". Nevertheless; once the session was over; he went diligently to do the summary of his work as asked by Mrs. Karen. It's been good overall; there's a lot more to accomplish which I cannot state in a one lesson review; but I definitely see how good she is with ADHD kids. I look forward to a great relationship with her.Annie, 4 lessons with Karen
