UAB at Birmingham (Secondary English and Education)
I have a degree in English and Secondary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I taught high school Pre-AP English (and theatre) for three years before deciding to stay home with my youngsters. I love everything about English and Literature, but I also know how it can be difficult to grasp and appreciate. I understand everyone has his/her own way to learn material, and I believe a great way to start on the path towards grade and comprehension improvement is to consider that and ask these questions: What exactly am I struggling with or not understanding? What are my objectives for this tutoring experience and regarding my knowledge of this material? What parts do I grasp? How can I use the things I do understand to help me more fully grasp the other material?
I hope this helps you decide whether I will be a good fit for you or not. Either way, I wish you the best of luck in your studies and your future! Have a great day! Getting help from a tutor shouldn't break your bank.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught high school Pre-AP English for three years. In these classes I concentrated on skills that help college-minded students analyze different types of texts and ways to write effectively on their own analysis.
I attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for two years where I began a major in Performing Arts. When I transferred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, I changed my major to Secondary English and Education which allowed me to teach high school theatre classes for one year and to help direct and organize three large school wide productions. Also, I have attended the division Trumbauer competitions numerous times as a student and then as a teacher.
