About Daniel

I would like to tutor either a single learner or a small group of students. But first, please allow me to tell you about my very strong Mathematics, computer, Microsoft Office, and educational background. In 1998, I obtained my PhD in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. Five years ago, I retired after 36 years as a Software Developer. During that time, I designed, built, delivered, and supported over 20 large software systems utilizing Fortran, Assembly Language, Pascal, Perl, SQL, C / C++, Java, Ada, and Html. I am very familiar with Microsoft Windows, Internet browsing and websites, and iPad usage. I have been using Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word since Office 95 and Publisher since Office 2003. I am currently studying for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification exams. I have taught six semesters of Computer Science (C / C++ and Java) as an adjunct professor at UAH and have worked for the Madison County School system over the past five years. During that time, I worked parts of 2 years as a substitute teacher, 1 year as a Math / Reading Tutor, and 3 years as a Computer Lab Aide / Instructor. Last year, I also volunteered to tutor introductory computer topics, including Microsoft Office, to a pair of Home Schooled children.

I tutor and teach as a way of giving back to the community. My biggest reward is seeing the growth and success of my students. I am well organized, develop a syllabus and schedule, and implement a hands-on learning approach. I recognize whether a student is grasping or struggling with the material and adjust accordingly. I have received excellent feedback from students, teachers, and parents.

Thank you for your consideration and best wishes.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Programming

I worked as a software developer for 36 years, using the Fortran, Pascal, C/C++, C#, Ada, Java, Assembly Language, Perl, and HTML. I have a PhD in Computer Science. I was employed as a part-time professor, teaching 4 semesters of C/C++ and 2 semesters of Java.

For 3 years, I was the Computer Aide at New Hope Elementary School, primarily teaching grades 4-8. I worked parts of 2 years as a substitute teacher for grades 2-12. For parts of 2 years, I tutored Math and Reading to grades 4-6. I taught Computer Science to a family of home schooled children over a one year period.

Microsoft Windows

I worked 36 years as a Software Developer, most of it using various Windows Operating Systems. I have a PhD in Computer Science and have taught 6 semesters of C/C++ and Java as a part-time college professor; we used Microsoft Windows as the development platform. I have used and maintained Windows home computers since Windows 95.

In summary, I am very experienced in all user, system development, and System Administrative aspects of Microsoft Windows.
