I am a young and self-motivated student. I recently began tutoring Spanish-speaking adults and I love it! I hope to continue tutoring and teaching English for the rest of my life and teach in other countries one day. I speak enough Spanish to communicate effectively and am willing to work with anyone willing to try.
My favorite part about being a tutor is teaching people who have the desire to learn. Each person has their own individual reason for learning English, whether it be for a job, school, or even filling out a form at the doctor's office. I love getting to know my students and teaching them things that they will use and give them the confidence to communicate. My students speak very little English so this experience has been a time of learning for me in addition to them as I learn to speak Spanish and they learn to speak and understand English.
I have been certified to tutor through the Literacy Council of Birmingham and teach English every Wednesday evening. My students believe that I am a good teacher and they are an encouragement to me as I am to them. I work with the student individually to provide for their needs and what they want to learn, not what I am forcing them to.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
