About Ariel

Hello! My name is Ariel. I am a certified educator, with a degree in Early Childhood Education and in Elementary Education. I am a Highly Qualified Teacher in the state of Alabama. I am currently working with Jacksonville State University through the CORE Partners program as an Education Technology Assistant. I work with teachers in middle and high school to incorporate technology into the classroom. I also help them with research, developing lesson plans, and solving technology issues. I love finding ways to incorporate technology into lessons to make the lesson really stick with students. I am also a substitute teacher with the Etowah County Board of Education. I really enjoy working with elementary and middle school students in the classroom.

Most of my experience with teaching comes from my experiences with student teaching in the 5th grade. I also had the opportunity to tutor a fourth grade student at JSU. My other teaching experience comes from teaching guitar lessons for about a year, and 6+ years of teaching children and adults the martial art of Tae Kwon Do. Though I love teaching and tutoring in the schools, my biggest passion is for the martial arts.

I have the most experience in teaching GOMath! to fifth graders, and have worked with other grades using GoMath! I also have a good deal of experience in using the Reading Wonders reading curriculum in fifth grade, and also other grades

My certification is in Early Childhood / Elementary Education. I love learning new ways to teach Elementary students and have spent many hours of professional development training for curriculum, technology, and tools.

I have trained in the art of Tae Kwon Do since the age of ten, which makes 2015 my fifteenth year of training. I have been an instructor for the past six years. I love the martial arts and have also trained for two years in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and briefly in Yoshukai Karate, Aikido and Judo. I have competed and placed in tournaments in both Tae Kwon Do and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and also judged in Karate tournaments. I have a passion for the martial arts and also for teaching the martial arts to others. I have experience in leading both large and small classes, and also one-on-one.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I want to encourage you to contact me to learn more and to schedule lessons.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified Early Childhood and Elementary Education teacher. I have two years experience in working in elementary classrooms as a practicum student, then student teacher. I have worked with students, created lesson plans, and taught lessons to Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. My student teaching experience was in fifth grade. I had extensive teaching opportunities in this classroom, and I taught math, reading, science, and social studies lessons. I wrote and taught a two-week science unit on energy. I believe it is important to give students hands-on opportunities so they can really experience what they are learning, rather than just memorizing out of a book.

Elementary Science

I taught elementary science to fifth graders during my education classes and have worked with students in elementary grades as a substitute. I also created and taught a two week unit on forms of energy. I love to use hands-on activities and tools to show science concepts to students.

Guitar

I have taken both one-on-one and group guitar lessons for three years. I then began to play the acoustic guitar in my church's youth band on Wednesdays and Sundays for four years. I have tutored several students who were just starting to learn the guitar and have had one student move on to playing guitar in her own church.

Martial Arts

I have trained in the art of Tae Kwon Do since the age of ten, which makes 2015 my fifteenth year of training. I have been an instructor for the past six years. I love the martial arts and have also trained for two years in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and briefly in Yoshukai Karate, Aikido and Judo. I have competed and placed in tournaments in both Tae Kwon Do and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and also judged in Karate tournaments. I assist in conducting tests for students, and also for keeping track of attendance / contact information for each student. I have a passion for the martial arts and also for teaching the martial arts to others. I have experience in leading both large and small classes, and also one-on-one. I have taught children as young as four, all the way up to adults.

Reading

I am a certified Elementary Educator and I am ARI (Alabama Reading Initiative) certified. I have worked with students who were just learning to read up to fifth grade students working on creative writing projects. I taught fifth grade Reading using the Reading Wonders books.
