I am originally from South Alabama. I transferred to the University of North Alabama as a junior in 2012 and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in German and Political Science. I currently teach Spanish 1 & 2 and German 1 & 2 at Shoals Christian School. I enjoy teaching foreign languages because it is a clearly measured subject in which actual progress can be observed by students' ability to communicate in the language. I have genuinely enjoyed teaching foreign languages at SCS as it is a very laid back subject in which massive progress can be made easier than in others.
As much as I enjoy teaching others foreign languages, my real passion in teaching and tutoring lies with history and other social studies. I look forward to the opportunity to put my teaching experience to work, tutoring in these subjects because I believe history especially can be the most enjoyable subject, but unfortunately is often presented in a way that makes it appear boring. I believe the best way to approach history is not to see it as rote memorization of past facts and events, but exploring the reasons why individuals like us made decisions in the past that affected the world we live in today.
I minored in German at the University of North Alabama where I took more than eighteen hours of German classes and supplemented my university studies by independently learning the language more in depth. I have more than a year's experience teaching both languages to high school freshmen and sophomores.
I would be more than happy to help you improve your knowledge of foreign languages or social studies in a way that would not only help you pass quizzes and tests, but would give you an edge over your classmates and others your age. Learning foreign languages and history don't only clog brain space, they improve critical thinking and analytical skills that will help you in any job. I am originally from South Alabama. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
