I have ten years' experience in the school setting in various positions, including special education, regular education, and school counseling. I have found working with a small group or one-on-one is most effective and just best for some students. I have worked with struggling children of all kinds, some due to a disability, others due to home life, and stress related concerns causing a lapse in learning. I promise after a few weeks, you will see the difference, and the learning will be fun and looked forward to!
I am a certified regular ed and special ed teacher and have had a lot of experience working with children struggling or below grade level. I know how to teach as it is taught in the classroom, but also in a variety of other ways for the learner who learns a bit differently.
All of my education experience has been in elementary. With special needs children, most of my experience is with the younger ages, and prefer younger ages when it comes to children with disabilities. I have tutored and taught all ages in regular education at the elementary level.
Currently, I cannot teach with a regular school schedule due to helping care for my mother. It is a rare opportunity for you that I would be in the business to tutor, and I encourage you to utilize me, as once my caseload builds, I doubt many will leave. Hope to meet you soon! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold nine years experience in the elementary setting. I have taught SpEd as well as regular ed, and my last days in education I was a school counselor with my face in all the classrooms PK-5th grade, often called to help with the most challenging of students. I am currently certified in the state of AL by the Alabama Department of Education for Class A, School Counselor (050) Grades P-12 and Class B, Early Childhood (56) Grades P-3.
My Special Education experience goes well beyond teaching strategies and experience with instruction. I have experience with the paperwork/IEPs, legal entities of Special Needs and the children's rights, as well as technology resources that can help a Special Needs child succeed with either their IEPs, or keep up w/general education classes. I am currently certified by the Alabama Department of Education for Class B, Collaborative Special Education Teacher (48D) Grades K-6; Class B, Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (48D) Grades P-3 and also currently hold Texas certification for SpEd EC-12.
