My name is Ben and I have been tutoring mathematics for over 6 years. I graduated high school in 2004 with honors and participated in Mu Alpha Theta(Math Club!). After graduation, I knew I wanted to study math. So I went to the University of Central Florida and now I have my Bachelors for Applied Mathematics. There I grew my understanding of mathematics and how to help others understand it.
Tutoring has always been a big part of my life. Since high school I have always helped others improve their grades. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In Algebra 1 we begin to use operators, constants and variables to explore key concepts that help us understand linear models.
Common errors have to do with keeping track of how the order of operations are preformed and sign manipulations.
One of my favorite topics to cover in the subject is the application of ratios.
