Grand Canyon University (Elem Ed and Spec Ed)
My desire to teach comes from seeing the look on my own child's face as she learned to read and write. As a summa cum laude graduate, I have seen that hard work and dedication to my students pay off for us both. With over 25 years experience in various education settings, I have enjoyed assisting hundreds of children realize their potential through improved grades, test scores, and self esteem. Teaching, and helping young people succeed is the perfect job.
Feedback on my performance is appreciated, as I hold myself to high standards. Parents will not be billed for a lesson for which they are not completely satisfied with the results of my tutoring.
I have worked with 3-9 year olds for more than 20 years. I am highly qualified in Elementary Education; meeting all learning styles of the individual child; and patience in learning. I also have extensive experience with letter and number recognition, reading and math through first grade level, as well as motor skill and self-realization (self-control) training. Being ambidextrous, I am able to accommodate and assist in handwriting, cutting, and coloring skills using either hand.
I have worked with students struggling with dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, sensory issues, and other special learning needs. I strive to make each learning experience fun and exciting, not overwhelming, while teaching to the student's unique learning style.
Homework, assessments, and progress reports will be designed to meet grade level learning, as well as inform parents and teachers of progress achieved.
We all have responsibilities in place, and I try to be flexible with availability. While I have a cancellation period in place, there will be opportunities for make-up sessions.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student reach their personal levels of success! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience working in a resource room helping third, fourth, and fifth grade students with their reading and math skills. I have over 18 years experience in various classrooms, and have worked with readers on many different levels. I have experience working with students with specific learning needs such as Dysgraphia and Dyslexia.
I have over 15 years experience working with students who learn differently, in both inclusion and self-contained classrooms. I have worked in a Dyslexia Clinic, as well as teaching my own child with dyslexia new reading strategies. I recently started a new resource unit at the local elementary school, utilizing student individual education plans to develop lesson plans and learning strategies in small group settings.
