University of New Mexico (Psychology)
I am a bubbly, energetic, and encouraging undergraduate student in Psychology. I believe that tutoring is about teamwork. You need a tutor who can identify your personal needs and help you work according to your own learning style. I need a student who is willing to learn. The best tutors are the ones who eventually lose their jobs, by making sure their students no longer need them! Tutoring goes beyond the individual lesson. It's more than helping a student as they struggle through difficult math problems or learning to read. When I tutor, I try to help my students instill good studying habits, figure out their learning style, and become independent studiers with the skill to master any subject. I am compassionate, and all about encouragement. An inspired student works harder!
I began tutoring at the age of twelve, volunteering in a first-grade classroom twice a week, teaching students how to read. Since then, I have worked with students from 1st-12th grade in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and History. I love watching students gain confidence and start working independently! I have worked as a private nanny for the past four years, and gained valuable tutoring experience. I have worked with developmentally disabled, ADHD, dyslexic, and Autistic individuals. I received an excellent ACT score (31) and can help students as they prepare for the test. I am a wonderful writer, and can help proofread papers and teach students effective strategies for unforgettable writing. I am majoring in Psychology and have completed extensive coursework: I am happy to tutor any college students in a related field. I am flexible and adaptable. I work hard to meet each student's needs.
Every student learns in different ways: especially when it comes to math! I am always reading new research on the best strategies for teaching elementary-aged students basic mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and long division. I think outside the box and help students approach the problem from different angles, until we figure out, together, the best way for them to process math.
I have completed extensive Psychology coursework. In fact, I have finished all the credits required for a B.A. in Psychology: I am spending my final year taking electives to fulfill credit hour requirements. I can help with Pavlovian, Freudian, and Jungian Psychology study. I can assist in learning the History of Psychology, methods for research, proofreading papers, and mastering basic Psychological concepts.
I have always excelled in English. I write excellent papers, and have a critical eye when proofreading. I take joy in reading and writing, and I help students to find their own voice in this area. I have worked with elementary-aged students still learning to read. I have also assisted students in mastering reading comprehension before taking college entrance exams. I help students learn to write clearly and effectively in academic, professional, and creative areas of writing.
Feel free to contact me at any time: As I am an online student, I am constantly on my laptop. I have very flexible scheduling. Let's start learning! I am a bubbly, energetic, and encouraging undergraduate student in Psychology. I believe that tutoring is about teamwork. I charge $50/hour for in-person lessons up to 2 students, $45/hour for online. We can negotiate a discounted price for long-term tutoring. $10 for each additional student after 2.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently an Anthropology minor and have taken several credit hours of Anthropology coursework. I have done well in all of my Anthropology classes. I can assist students in understanding concepts surrounding, specifically, human evolution. I can tutor students in lower- to mid- level Anthropology courses (high school, 100 and 200 level college).
I have worked as both a tutor and a nanny for the past four years. I have worked with three children diagnosed as Autistic: one aged two, one aged four, and one aged ten. I was able to help them set goals and find ways to communicate their needs effectively. My coursework in Psychology gives me an understanding of an Autistic child's needs that other tutors may lack.
I have tutored children with dyslexia in the past. I helped a six-year-old diagnosed with dyslexia learn to read. My coursework in Psychology has helped me to understand how those with learning disabilities think. I have done extensive research in methods to encourage learning.
