Samford University (Human Relations)
I am a magna cum laude graduate of Samford University. I have been educating my own children for the last 20 years and have two children in college on scholarships. I am familiar with many different learning styles and tailoring a learning experience to the individual needs of the student. I have taught all subjects, including elementary Latin and advanced math. I especially have a passion for good writing and the importance of literature. I have a love for learning and it is my hope to see students become lifelong learners and not just good test takers. That being said, I also understand the importance of good preparation in taking tests such as the ACT and SAT. I believe that breaking down these tests into manageable chunks and tackling the pieces one at a time is the key to conquering them. My goal in preparing students for these tests is to help them identify the specifics in each section that will help ensure more correct responses.
One thing I have heard from my students who are now college students is how much they benefitted from learning good writing skills while in high school. Those who write a lot and well during high school will find the writing in college much less daunting. I can help your student develop these skill by walking them through the process of writing anything from a literary analysis to a research paper. Writing is becoming a lost art. We need to reclaim it. I am a magna cum laude graduate of Samford University. I have been educating my own children for the last 20 years and have two children in college on scholarships. Kristin has been wonderful while working with my son. He's extremely shy but she's been very kind and patient. Just after a few sessions I can already see an improvement. And not just in his reading, but also in his attitude about reading.
Love Kristin, my daughter is having problem in reading the short time we have been going , she has improved a lot, Kristin make reading fun and interesting for my daughter, and she can't wait till her next session.
She is a good tutor and very easy to get in touch with. My son has a touch of dyslexia and Kristin was very understanding. Our schedule was difficult
and she always tried her best to work with us. Great experience.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I really enjoy teaching elementary students. I have been homeschooling my own children for 18 years and so I have taught every grade and every subject to children with varying learning styles. I also spent the entire Fall semester tutoring a second grader in grammar independent from Wyzant. Additionally, I am qualified through Wyzant in Elementary Math and Science. My teaching method will vary depending on the needs of the student and the subjects to be taught, but I am well versed in creative methods, including many kinesthetic learning tools.
I have been a homeschooling mom for nearly twenty years. During that time I have educated five children and have successfully graduated two. I am familiar with a lot of different curricula and am skilled at writing a syllabus. I am comfortable with all the challenges and concerns that are unique to homeschooling.
Because I have spent nearly twenty years teaching multiple students with varying learning styles, I am well versed at helping students develop study techniques that work for them. Some students are visual, some are aural and some kinestetic. The key to developing good study skills is to figure out which techniques work best for a particular student. Some of the study aids I have employed in the past include flash cards, color coding, mnemonics, and good note taking.
