My name is Matt and I have been in education for 13 years. I obtained my Bachelors from the University of Alabama, my Masters from the University of West Alabama, and my Doctorate from Sam Houston State University in Texas. Additionally, I hold enough graduate hours to teach English, sociology, education, and religion, all at the college level. My doctorate degree specialized in developmental education, so I have a lot of experience working with and developing programs for struggling or academically delayed students.

I spent my first six years in education teaching English and reading in the Alabama public school system. I taught all grades 5th-12th at some point. After that I moved into teaching at our local community college, where I have been the last seven years as a full time English instructor. My entire career has centered around teaching students and working with them on a one on one basis, as teaching English composition is basically one on one writing tutoring. I love teaching, and I love seeing students excel where they struggle.

On a personal note, I am married with three awesome kids, one dog, one cat, and one rabbit. I spent several years as a high school football coach before becoming an instructor at my college. I am an avid Alabama football fan, and love traveling and experiencing new places with my family. Outside of that, I am a Christian pastor of a small, non-denominational church in my town.

If you are struggling, I would love to help out. Contact me to set up a time. I prefer to tutor online, as it is easier to work out a time that way.

I took several classes as an undergraduate student that focused on classics, such as Greek and Roman mythology. Additionally, while I taught public school, I always taught large sections on mythology. In my current profession of collegiate English teacher, one must have a solid background in mythology, as there are many literary allusions to it.
