About Kathaleen

Bio

I love helping students improve their math and reading skills. Many times, students need additional coaching in school subjects to improve their understanding. Using my Master's degree in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and experience as a classroom teacher, I can help you succeed in the classroom.

My favorite part of teaching is one on one instruction. Below I describe the methods I use when tutoring students in a variety of subjects.

My favorite part of teaching is one on one instruction. Below I describe the methods I use when tutoring students in a variety of subjects.

I love math and helping students with math fluency and tackling challenging problems. I have a minor in Mathematics and have always viewed math problems as puzzles to solve. I help students with math by working on problems, discussing concepts in mathematics, and playing math games (if appropriate).

Reading with students always leads to great conversations. Through these conversations, students improve their comprehension and link their reading to their everyday lives and interests.

Science is a great subject to link to the real world. I love to share science facts with students, find real world examples of science and help students link science to their everyday life.

Please contact me to schedule a tutoring session. I would love to you with reading comprehension, writing, math, social studies and science.

The lessons were inquiry based and met the Common Core aligned Alabama curriculum standards.

Algebra 1

Algebra is my favorite math subject. I look at Algebra problems as puzzles to solve. Difficulties with algebra is sometimes linked to holes in basic mathematics skills. Once these skills are learned and practiced, algebra becomes easier.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I love math and I look at each math problem as a puzzle to solve. I use this philosophy when I help others with math, including Algebra 2. Many times, difficulty with math can be traced to a misunderstanding of math basics. Once these gaps are resolved, math becomes easier.
