About Nick

I've always enjoyed learning and watching others learn. Ever since a young age, I've assisted students with their studies. I'm personally a math and science geek, but am proficient in other subjects and am willing to assist anyone with any subject.

I'm able to tutor individuals who need a little help with a subject to students who are far behind, ultimately with having the same goal in mind: proficiency in the subject matter. I've tutored high-school students in the GOT Program (Graduate On-Time) to students in after-school programs in Birmingham City Schools.

I do assign some homework to allow the student to practice what the lesson covered, however I take into account busy schedules, sports schedules, and school assignments. I look forward to helping you or your student achieve their goals!

I've always had a knack for math and have assisted those who have taken these courses. I have helped students taking Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry receive high grades on tests, making sure to tie key concepts from each subject matter together. I was above the 95th percentile in ACT math and have helped achieve people who needed assistance in preparing for the ACT.

I've had experience tutoring all types of students, from those who learn fast to those who need a little more time. I've been able to encourage students to love learning and have been able to help them turn failing grades into A's. I'm quite patient and if a student isn't understanding one approach, I'll be able to try a different approach.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Finite Math

Over the years, I have tutored students in finite math within the classroom setting. While tutoring students in the GOT Program (Graduate On-Time), I assisted students who were very far behind in their academia, such that they would go from receiving failing grades on tests and assignments to receiving A's and B's. I have also taken courses which covered the material within finite math. A popular tutoring method which I have used in the past is showing the student how to solve problems step-by-step, and allowing the student to try it. If the student is unable to solve it, we identify the step(s) that they are having a difficult time approaching.
