About Kevin

My joy of learning and helping others achieve their goals feeds my love of teaching and tutoring. Having obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, a Masters in Public Health, a Doctorate in Educational Statistics and a Masters in Interactive Design and Game Development, I've found that learning, although sometimes challenging, can be an enjoyable and memorable experience for any learner.

Although I have valuable work experience and a great deal of education, I took the high road and provided care for an elderly parent for several years. During that time, I continued to read and learn, and even offered some basic tutoring to an individual with Down's Syndrome in the process.

Now that I've once again began seeking a full time assignment, I would enjoy the opportunity to help a student learner, young or old, achieve their goals in the classroom through a tutoring session, or sessions, until something permanent comes along. I specialize in English speaking and writing, all Math topics up to PreCalculus, General Statistics, General Chemistry 1, the Windows Suite of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access, some elementary learning technologies for young learners, basic graphic design and some basic web design.

I have experience tutoring Calculus and Statistics. I tutored for a company in Atlanta for a while during my studies at Georgia State. Also while in Atlanta, I taught Microsoft Products as well as HTML for American Intercontinental University in a facilitated learning environment. Finally, I taught Educational Statistics as a graduate student at Georgia State University for several years.

My goal for each session is to make sure that the student is challenged but not overwhelmed. My aim is to help a student find his or her own mechanism for learning that is both enjoyable and enriching, which ultimately helps one find his or her own learning "voice." After each lesson, depending on the need of the student, I assign homework or a doable task to be completed before the next session.

I am generally available from 11 am to 7 pm, Monday thru Saturday, and I typically meet the student in a library or a coffee shop. My base rate is $50/hour.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Most math topics have always made sense to me so I always had an affinity for the subject. My undergraduate coursework includes Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, 2, 3 and 4. My graduate coursework has included Math Statistics, and the full spectrum of Statistics courses.

I minored in Chemistry in college and took several Chemistry classes in graduate school that reinforced that learning.

After minoring in English in college, I later joined the art of writing over the course of completing 2 Masters level Research projects and a Doctoral Dissertation. Believe it or not, writing can be fun.

My skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access.

Learning does not have to be a challenge. It can be enjoyable. Contact me and let's get started on making your learning goals more than achievable!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Windows

My experience with Windows began as a Masters level teacher at American Intercontinental University. I taught Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access to students who were organizing and working on their Web Based Projects. I received more experience with Microsoft Word when I used it to write and complete my Dissertation in 2004. Recently, I volunteer tutored students at one of the local Birmingham libraries who were taking business courses online and needed help with the Microsoft components.
