About Justin

My name is Justin H. I am a first-year seminary student at Beeson Divinity School offering piano and composition lessons. I have a BA in Music Theory/Composition and three years of classical training from the College of Charleston. My senior research project, a setting of Anna Akhmatova's "Requiem" for Pierrot ensemble, percussion, and voice, won the Phi Kappa Phi Undergraduate Research Award. I know that transportation is hard for busy families with several kids. To make it easy, I can come to you! I provide quality music education for below-market rates, plus the convenience of not having to leave your home!

I also provide tutoring services in Romanian. I spent four summers as an intern with an orphan care foundation in Romania, and after I finished my MA I lived there for almost two years. I speak professionally proficient Romanian, having taught Bible studies, coordinated summer camps, and led orphan outreach clubs in Romanian. I also enjoy reading Romanian literature in my spare time. Having learned the language as an adult, I can teach you grammatically sound conversational Romanian in a way that makes sense for a native English speaker.

I also tutor math, writing, English, and SAT test prep. I especially enjoy writing - I love helping students learn how to organize their ideas and convey them coherently and logically. For me, tutoring is more than preparation for tests and exams - it is an opportunity to invest in my community and to help others learn to think critically and communicate clearly.

If you are interested in any of these services, please do not hesitate to contact me. As a student, my schedule is flexible, and I will make every effort to work around your schedule. I am happy to come to you or your preferred meeting place to make it as convenient as possible.

Thanks!
Justin

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I am currently a student at Beeson Divinity School. While in college I was active in campus ministry and led a Bible study for underclassmen. I spent the last two years working for an orphan care foundation in Romania, where I taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, and spoke at our summer camps.

Composition (Music)

I have a B.A. in Music Theory/Composition from the College of Charleston ('12), where I had several pieces performed on campus. My senior composition project won the Phi Kappa Phi Undergraduate Research Award.

Piano

I studied piano for fifteen years, including three years of classical training at the College of Charleston.

Romanian

I spent 4 summers volunteering in Romania with Livada Orphan Care while I was in college, and when I finished graduate school I lived there for almost two years. I have taught Bible studies, led orphan outreach clubs, and coordinated camps in Romanian, and also enjoy reading Romanian literature in my free time. Having learned the language as an adult myself, I can teach you grammatically sound conversational Romanian in a way that makes sense for English speakers.
