About Lemar

Dear Parents and Students,

I am privileged to assist you all. I have excelled in math throughout my life. I am well versed in arithmetic ranging from basic math all the way up to calculus I. I can help out with calculus 2 and 3 to an extent, however I will need to be refreshed on some of the material as I tutor. I scored a 4/5 on the Ap Calculus Exam, I was inducted into Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, and I won 3rd place in the Birmingham city schools calculus tournament in 2009. I earned an A in all of my college calculus courses at The University of Alabama (Calculus I to Calculus III), and I have worked and volunteered as a calculus tutor for The University of Alabama and Impact Alabama. In addition, I recently graduated for the University of Alabama with an electrical engineering degree, which involved completing high level math courses beyond calculus three. As a result, my background and foundation in math is strongly solidified.

I usually allow the students I tutor to show me math problems from their textbooks or internet homework and guide them through the process of solving the problems. I also explain the foundation and theory behind the math concepts that we cover. Afterwards I either make problems myself or choose other problems from their materials for them to practice themselves so that I can assess what they have learned. I am confident that I can increase the understanding of the students that I am obliged to help, and I promise to do my best to pass my expertise on to them.

Sincerely,
Lemar C.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I am qualified to tutor in ACT Math because I have been exposed to math concepts that are far beyond this subject area, and I have studied for and taken the ACT three times. My score on the Math portion of the ACT was a 28; which shows that I understood the ACT math concepts that I studied quite well. The math on the ACT does not go beyond Algebra 2. I passed Algebra 2 with a 97% at Ramsay, one of the greatest high schools in the Birmingham area.

Algebra 1

I have a great understanding and grasp on the subject of Algebra. In high school, I was able to skip over Algebra 1 and take Honors Algebra 2 because of my high math placement. In addition, my final average in that class was a 97%. Also I worked for the University of Alabama as a math tutor and assisted many students in Algebra, Calculus, and even more advanced courses.

Algebra 2

I have a great understanding and grasp on the subject of Algebra. In high school I was able to skip over Algebra 1 and take Honors Algebra 2 because of my high math placement. In addition, my final average in that class was a 97%. Also I worked for the University of Alabama as a math tutor and assisted a great number of students in Algebra, Calculus, and even more advanced courses.

Calculus

Calculus is my favorite subject in all of academics, and it is the subject in which I have made my highest scores in college. I made A's in all of my calculus courses at the University of Alabama, and I greatly enjoy helping other students understand calculus. I volunteered and met the qualifications to help prepare students for AP Calculus for Impact Alabama's College First program.

SAT Math

I have great qualifications for tutoring in SAT math. First of all, I was awarded with the National Achievement Scholarship based on my high scores on both the PSAT and SAT. The math concepts on the SAT are very basic from my perspective, and I can easily transfer my techniques to other students.
