Personally, I have been married for thirty years and have two daughters and two grandchildren, (twin girls). I am originally from Shreveport Louisiana but have been in Birmingham the majority of my adult life. I started substitute teaching in the Birmingham city school system in 1990 and have been teaching and tutoring students off and on for about twenty plus years. During that time I have found that I enjoy working with elementary grade level students. I like to see the excitement and enthusiasm hey get when they master a skill and/or task. Don’t’ get me wrong, I like middle school students as well. I enjoy helping them with special projects and getting them to understand math problems and doing book reports.
I have also worked in private and proprietary schools and as a teacher and as an administrator. I understand the importance for a child to know and comprehend lessons they are being taught. I believe that every child has the ability to learn and understand what they have been taught if they have the right learning environment and the right person helping them in the learning process.
My educational background and qualification are basically in the education field. I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and am currently working on my Doctorate in education. I’ve also worked in the corporate world and fully understand why education is important to everyone.
I enjoy the look on a student's face and the relief in a parents heart when they find out that their child has mastered a skill, subject or even an assignment. When I work with students I give them my full attention and allow them to express to me the problem they are having in the classroom. If you want your child to succeed and become a success in the classroom contact me and we can get started on that journey. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
