As a certified teacher in English and Spanish, I have 7 years experience tutoring in several subject areas. I begin by working with each child to determine his or her learning style. I then use various methods to make certain he or she is able to fully grasp the concepts. In addition to working with the content area, I also focus on study skills and organizational skills to help the child be successful in all areas. Each session will leave the child feeling good about himself and knowing that he can be successful in the classroom. Your child will know that I am his or her advocate and will work to make certain the teacher, parent, and child are all working together to achieve the highest possible results.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

For the past seven years I have tutored a student with ADD and dyslexia. We met each day for 1 hour with my initial focus being his organizational skills. I created an individual plan that the student followed very easily and became successful in his classes due to it. I also taught a study skills/organizational skills class to my 7th graders. We focused on finding out how each person studied best and then worked on finding ways to incorporate the learning style with the study habits.
