About April

I am committed to seeing students and adults succeed in their education and on the job. My services are offered to help students improve their study skills and to also enhance future performance in the workplace. As a certified high school teacher with a Masters in Accounting and Financial Management, I have the experience to help guide students to success academically. I have a strong mathematical background after taking Calculus while in high school and then proceeding to take high-level math classes in college. I can provide assistance in elementary and middle school mathematics courses, pre-algebra, algebra, college algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. I can also assist students interested in passing exams, such as the GED, ASVAB, Praxis and GMAT, primarily focusing on math skills. Further, I have a degree in accounting and have work experience in this area. Anyone interested in enhancing their performance in basic accounting courses can definitely contact me for help.

For those interested in sports, I ran track for 11 years and competed for a Division I University. I currently coach track and field at a local high school and am very interested in general overall health and fitness. I am more than happy to train anyone in strength, conditioning, and running.

Just know that I am here for you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I earned a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Samford University and also a Masters in Accounting and Finance from Keller Graduate School of Management. Additionally, I teach high school business courses and have worked in professional offices for several years. I've gained much business experience through my education and experience.

Career Development

As a teacher certified in business education, I am tasked with integrating career exploration and college planning into course instruction. Currently, I teach Career Preparedness, which allows me to work with students on college and career and planning, financial literacy, and personal growth. Additionally, I work with the students on resume writing, job searches, and job interviews to help them prepare for and acquire full-time employment, summer jobs, and internships.

College Counseling

As a teacher certified in business education, I am tasked with integrating career exploration and college planning into course instruction while also working alongside high school counselors. For eight years, I have worked with high school and college students helping them explore careers in accounting and finance. Currently, I connect with local colleges and university program directors and professors to help place students and adult learners in appropriate degree programs.

Fitness

Being physically fit is the foundation for being a great athlete. As a track and field athlete for 13 years and now a coach of 8 years, I have expanded my knowledge fitness. I've worked with hundreds of high school athletes, focusing on functional strength, conditioning, and performance training.

QuickBooks

As a high school accounting teacher, I've trained students how to use QuickBooks and prepare for the QuickBooks Certified User Test. After graduating from college, I worked for an accounting firm where I had to learn how to use our clients' accounting software programs. As a freelance accountant, I used QuickBooks to help manage the financial operations of small businesses and non-profits.

Track & Field

I was competitive in track and field for eleven years, beginning in middle school and ending after college. In high school and in college, I specialized in hurdles and jumps. As a high school athlete, I finished in the top 5 in state as a hurdler for 3 years. In jumps, I was the state runner-up for two years, breaking the state record during my senior year.

While in college, I was a two-time conference champion in the triple jump and went on to compete at the NCAA Division I MidEast Regional meet in 2004 and 2006. As a hurdler, I was a three-time conference champion and competed at the NCAA MidEast Regional meet in 2006.

I received training in track and field while at Samford University—a NCAA Division 1 University—from the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Throws Coach. I coached outdoor track and field at Samford during the 2008 season and am currently the Girls Track and Field Coach at Hewitt-Trussville High School in Trussville, AL.

I have a true enjoyment for fitness and health and want to see others succeed, whether on a competitive level or with personal fitness goals.
