I'm a 20-year special educator looking to tutor students with mild special needs. My Bachelor's degree is in Collaborative Education and my Master's degree is in K-12 Technology Integration. I have content expertise in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. In addition to teaching content, I also teach executive function and study skills to help students feel more confident in their skills. Finally, I am experienced in administering formal assessment tools for special needs.
My teaching experience has mostly been with students in middle school, ages 11-15, and some high school, ages 14-18. I have taught in the following states: Alabama, Georgia, and California, and have taught in the following countries: China, Malaysia, and Thailand. I've worked in different capacities in these schools: classroom teacher, co-teacher, 1:1 support, resource room setting, and supporting at the department (leadership) level.
When I tutor, I take a student-centered approach. I consider the student, their strengths, their challenges, and use this to create a unique and individualized plan. I value building relationships with students as it is the cornerstone of learning. I frequently use direct instruction to meet students' needs. In addition, I curate and create resources for review and to solidify content. The review materials I use involve multiple modalities, ensuring I can reach and teach all students.
A quote that has always resonated with me is "You haven't taught until they've learned." I look forward to hearing from you to answer any questions you have and to set up your first lesson with me!
