About Mia

I am a sophomore student at Auburn University that just finished my freshman year. I am majoring in Electrical Engineering and minoring in Sustainability. Throughout high school, I did a lot of work tutoring. I worked at Kumon Math & Reading Center my junior year of high school and privately tutored my senior year. During my senior year, I mainly tutored in math, but also tutored in elementary math and reading occasionally.
Through working at Kumon I have experiences with all ages in tutoring in an effective way that teaches the student how to actually learn instead of feeding them the answers. I used this experience to begin privately tutoring and was successful in tutoring in various subject but a focus on math and reading. I have a strong academic background and can tutor in many areas, but my strengths are definitely math and reading. My math expertise goes from Pre-Algebra and Elementary math to all levels of Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. I am also able to help with SAT/ACT preparation and was named a National Merit Scholarship Winner for my PSAT scores during high school. I am an AP Scholar with distinction and would love to tutor for any of the 9 AP tests that I took. I have a NC Global Language Endorsement for Spanish and received Bronze Medals for each level of Spanish that I took in high school ( Spanish 1 to AP Spanish). I love working with kids and seeing them grow and learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I received A in Algebra 1 in middle school and have continued to excel in math. I privately tutored math and worked at a Math and Reading center with grades K-12.

Linear Algebra

I am experienced in Linear Algebra and would feel incredibly comfortable tutoring it. I took and completed a college-level Linear Algebra course at Auburn University and received an A in the course. The skills I learned in linear algebra are ones I continue to use in my major, electrical engineering, so I am constantly using those skills and would be comfortable with tutoring them.

Study Skills

Through my 14 years of education so far, I have been able to develop incredible study skills. I know what is effective and what is not. I've researched and studied how to study most effectively. I use Pomodoro techniques and know what methods are best for learning certain subjects. In addition to my own personal learning, I was able to gain knowledge of study skills through working at a Kumon Math & Reading center as well as being a private tutor throughout high school. Being a tutor doesn't stop after the lesson is over; you have to develop great study skills in the student for them to continue succeeding in their academic endeavors.
