I'm currently in my 7th year of teaching in a public school setting and love it. I discovered my love of teaching through tutoring, teaching freshman level biology labs, and teaching science at summer camps for 2nd-6th graders. My undergraduate degree is in biology and while conducting research on bluebirds and hummingbirds, my free time was being spent creating lessons for my tutoring students. After several freshmen students told me they wished their high school bio teacher was as enthusiastic as I am, I realized that I genuinely love teaching more than research!
At that point I earned a Master's in biology education and have taught 7th-12th graders various science courses over the last 7 years. One of my favorite things is seeing that "Whoa!" reaction when something finally clicks or a student realizes how things are actually connected!
My qualifications vary from one-on-one tutoring, last minute cram sessions before a test, small group ACT test prep sessions, and teaching 120 high school students each day for 5 years! I've formally taught 7th grade science, physical science, biology, genetics, chemistry, ecology, anatomy and physiology, ACT prep classes, and a lab based science elective class called Medical Detectives.
I understand biology can be confusing, seem pointless, and can be very difficult to understand at times. I also understand that we tend to wait until we're totally lost before looking for help and therefore may not even know where to begin when asking for help. I would love to help you better understand this awesome subject whether you're an aspiring future doctor or just trying to pass a required class!
