I never thought that I would be a math major when I entered college. The more classes I took, the more I came to appreciate exactly how wonderful math truly is.
I was blessed with some wonderful teachers in high school and college in my science and mathematics courses. Unfortunately this is not the case for every student. A good teacher can show a student how to learn math, not just do a particular problem. I have always enjoyed working with students one on one. I have tutored individuals as young as sixth grade and as old as thirty. Either way the process is a very rewarding one. I never thought that I would be a math major when I entered college. Jennifer tutored our daughter in Pre-calculus. My daughter commented that she understood more being taught by Jennifer then her current college professor. Thanks Jennifer, we look forward to more sessions with you tutoring our daughter!
Great job he is really becoming more confident in his work and in self thanks for a great lesson today.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a bachelors degree in mathematics. I have tutored students in high school algebra and college algebra. It is important to teach the fundamentals and how to apply them.
I have a degree in applied mathematics. I have also tutored multiple students at the college level and as young as sixth grade in Algebra 2.
Chemistry is about memorizing your definitions and then learning to apply them. The memorization work has to be done by the student. As a tutor I can drill the student on them. I would also be able to then show them how to dissect a problem into what information is given, what we want as an answer, and what can be gleaned from definitions.
Elementary math is about learning the basics of how to show your work and reason out a problem. I show a student the governing idea or principle, work through a basic example, and then show them how to apply the principles to a given situation. I also try to get a student to identify what their final answer will look like (i.e. X= a number, final answer will have the units of gallons, etc.)
Science is a wonderful subject. Establishing the basics early on is essential. Helping them understand the world around them will only open their eyes to how truly wonderful it is.
I have a B.S. In applied mathematics and general chemistry. I have tutored students at both the high school and college level successfully. I am able to find where a student understands something, start there, and find new ways to describe and teach concepts in math and chemistry.
I have a strong background in math and chemistry. I know how to convey concepts and break down seemingly complex items into simple doable steps.
I have taken two semesters of linear algebra. One was required. The other was taken as an independent study course. I passed with a B in both.
I have a B.S. in general chemistry and mathematics. I have worked with students ranging in age from sixth grade through adult in both science and math. I can provide a letter of reference if you wish.
I have worked with precal students recently. I tutor students in college and high school quite frequently. I earned a B.S. In general chemistry and applied mathematics from JSU in 2007. Since then I have tutored and substituted quite frequently.
