I have experience in tutoring and teaching adult students in undergraduate philosophy, GED test preparation and literacy skills, as well as, an undeclared minor in music and play guitar as an avocation and interest. I also have experience as an online tutor in seventh and eighth grade level remedial math and reading.
I have a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and history from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree (M.Ed.) in adult education from Auburn University.
My general philosophy of education is that people (children as well as adults) learn material more completely when they explore and discover a subject for themselves with the teacher/tutor operating as a guide, coach and resource person. For example, when tutoring reading I will have the student read different types of material while I give guidance and direction as needed. I look forward to working with you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
