I am a senior Aerospace engineer at Auburn University who has four years of math mentor experience and am eager to share my knowledge. I was awarded a merit scholarship to attend Auburn given my academic achievements and have had to maintain a high GPA my entire college career to keep that scholarship. During my degree I have taken advanced mathematic courses such as Calculus I,II, and III, Physics I and II, Linear Algebra, Linear Differential Equations, and Numerical Analysis. I have also taken general engineering courses such as Statics, Dynamics and Mechanics of Materials.
Taking these high-level courses has helped me become an expert in the fundamentals of mathematics as I utilize them in every one of my engineering courses. Combining my strong understanding of mathematics and years of experience tutoring mathematics I have developed strategies to maximize my teaching style. I believe every student requires a unique approach and am very willing to help find a strategy that works with them. However, along my journey I have come up with some fundamental methods to help all students. First, I am a firm believer in clear examples with reasoning behind each step. It’s not only important to understand the how in a problem but to understand the why. Because of this I am very detail oriented in teaching as to avoid gaps in knowledge. Second, I believe listening is key, understanding the exact area in which retention in the subject matter is lost is critical. It helps me identify exactly what needs to be focused on. Lastly, I believe in keeping things lighthearted and easy. Math is fun and I enjoy sharing the joy of solving a difficult problem with students therefor I always maintain a positive mindset about the problems at hand.
My goal is to help my students deeper their understanding of mathematics and give them the assistance they need to get past their current roadblock. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or subjects you could use my help with and we can schedule an appointment!
