In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Botany was a major emphasis area during pursuit of my BS degree and continued into my graduate education where the emphasis was in aquatic botany. I have used my botanical knowledge extensively during my career. I have headed projects to investigate sensitive floral species in Tennessee (Stone's River Bladderpod) and Georgia (Large-flowered Skullcap). I have also used my botanical knowledge during conservation work for a land trust organization in completing Baseline Documentation Reports.

My undergraduate education was a balance of zoology and botany. The majority of my coursework emphasized botany, but I had several zoology-related courses (General Zoo, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Biological Conservation). In graduate school I added to my zoology knowledge base with several additional courses (Ichthyology, Fisheries Biology, Ornithology, Mammalogy, Population Ecology, Organic Evolution). I contend that these courses, along with my real-world work, experience, and observations would qualify me as a zoology instructor/tutor.
