Hi, I'm Justin. I'm currently seeking my doctorate in math. I know you're probably thinking "Geez, get a life dude!" If so, hopefully I can change that mindset. Math is more like puzzles where we have certain rules and regulations that constitute a valid solution, think of it like a game. Mathematics and mathematical thinking are much more about understanding the logic and relationships behind the symbols we manipulate rather than just following memorized rules. And math becomes much easier to comprehend and, dare I say, enjoyable once we begin to get the "why" behind the procedures.

I like all things mathematics, and am also extending my skills into computer programming where the computer becomes a powerful aid to extending our intuition of complicated problems through computer simulation, and the language in which we communicate to computers is often one requiring a mathematical tongue.

I've had extensive experience with the subjects that I tutor, often having taught those very subjects at the college level. Even though I'm seeking an advanced degree in math, I always strive to deeply understand the concepts I both learn and teach as intuitively as possible, using diagrams, verbal explanations, and even real world analogies. Of course, there are sometimes procedures that need to be memorized, but there is also a need to understand the underlying ideas. I have a knack at being able to get to the heart of a student's difficulties with course material and explain things in a way that a particular student may best understand.

As a college instructor, I have taught courses in basic algebra, pre-calculus, up to finite mathematics (mainly linear algebra and probability) and general statistics. I've worked in the math tutoring centers of major universities tutoring subjects such as the aforementioned subjects but also linear algebra, all parts of the calculus sequence (I-III), and trigonometry.

If you think you might benefit from one-on-one tutoring with someone who has mastery over the subject you feel stressed ab

Algebra 2

I've taught algebra at the college level, and have tutored students in it for years at the university level (in university math tutoring labs). I remember what it was like as a high school student learning this topic. So I can empathize when students say something like, "I memorized techniques and procedures without really understanding why it all worked. Sometimes I just thought our math teachers wanted to see how many complicated hoops we could jump through." I'll work to make sure you not only understand what to do in a given math problem, but I'll make sure you know why you are doing it, and you'll be able to select the most efficient method available. You'll begin to do mathematics with ease and realize there is a reason for all the operations, and everything will begin to click.

Precalculus

I've taught precalculus at the university level and tutored the subject for years at the university level (in university tutoring centers). Not only will I teach you the techniques that you need to be successful but I will help you understand why these techniques work, which will make understanding the techniques much simpler. 💡💡💡 Many times students have difficulty with newer mathematics because their prerequisite skills for the new technique are lacking. We'll sift out and abolish those weakness so the new technique can be learned with ease. Not only will this help you with the current concept you are learning but you'll start to fill in other gaps in your math knowledge that will make the entire enterprise easier. Soon math won't seem so difficult. 💪

Great Tutor!

Justin is a great tutor. My son is a Freshman in high school taking Algebra 2. He was really struggling with the course and understanding the material the teacher was presenting. He was heading into the end of the first quarter with a C. The teacher gave the students the opportunity to raise their grades through an end of the quarter exam. Justin worked with my son for four hours reviewing an entire quarter of material to prepare for the exam. Justin did such a good job that my son got a 93 on the exam and raised his grade to a B for the quarter. Per my son, "Justin explains the material in a way I can understand". We plan to continue to use Justin to close the learning gap between what is taught in class and what he really needs to know.

Great tutor and very knowledgeable.

Justin helped our daughter with her Calc II class. They worked on several problems involving the three different types of improper integrals. They also focused on the pitfalls of not being cognizant of whether an integral is not "proper" or "improper". It was a great session and helped increase our daughter's knowledge and confidence. We will definitely be using Justin again for upcoming Calc II topics!!
