I am so excited to start tutoring on a regular basis! With 11 years teaching experience, mainly in elementary education, I thoroughly enjoy instructing in all of the basic subjects an elementary student might require assistance with.
One-on-one teaching has always been a favorite of mine and I was fortunate to work in a school that was focused on one-on-one interaction and instruction with each student. That experience definitely prepared me for the tutoring world.
When I was in school I hated Grammar/English! But when I got into college, I had an amazing teacher who really connected with me on a personal level and taught me how fun language skills can be! Now I'm the one people come to with grammar questions!
The basics of Elementary Education are the foundations for learning for the rest of a child's life, making it, in my opinion, the most important learning that anyone will experience during their life. The skills we learn during this pivotal time teach us how to learn for the rest of our lives. Patience and detail are a must when teaching children of this age, and imperative to guide them through the hurdles they may face in helping them achieve their goals.
Teaching K4 and Kindergarten for a large portion of my teaching years gave me the experience needed to be proficient in teaching phonics. This age is when reading is such a priority!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BS in Education. I taught in 2 private schools for a total of 11 years experience. One of the schools I taught for used the ACE system, which is a individualized course of study for each student. How that translates to my experience is that daily I had to work with students individually in the subject of study of which they were currently focused. No two students were in the exact same place, so as their instructor, I had to customize my teaching to meet each child's specific needs. In my opinion, this is exactly the qualifications one would need to be a great tutor.
