I was born in rural Alabama and helped support my working class family by harvesting food and fire wood for the winter months. I also worked as a farm hand herding animals and operating farm

I earned my BFA at the University of South Alabama my MFA in studio art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. I lived and worked within the New York City arts community for 16 years. I began tutoring in high school, helping students prepare for their graduation exams. Later, I was a graduate assistant at Pratt before teaching English and ESOL as a volunteer. Most recently I taught art techniques to elementary and middle school children and volunteered teaching art therapy at a homeless shelter in the NYC area.

I have over 20 years experience making art of various mediums, including: drawing, sketching, oil and acrylic painting, oil pastel, new forms, bricolage, and sculpture.

I enjoy teaching and being of service within my community. I encourage all to ask questions and seek out the beauty in the world around them. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule my services.

I have been a practicing artist for over 20 years. I have a MFA from Pratt Institute. I am patient and can perform the task before I explain the visual process behind it. I am able to answer the students design questions pertaining to the subject. I have taught different subjects including English. Teaching methods I have used include both classroom and one-on-one sessions, and include painting, drawing, sketching using classmates as models.

Painting

I have many years of painting experience which includes oil and acrylic painting on canvas. I am capable of teaching relevant color theory as well as how light effects color. Part of my experience includes acting as a Graduate assistant, critiquing projects created by undergraduate art students. While working with at schools within the New York City Department of Education, I experienced both one-on-one lessons and classroom instruction. I teach how color changes when mixed and how light and dark work to create depth in the composition.
