Bachelor of Science in Elementary Ed from (LU) Liberty University (Elementary Education)
I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education 4-7. Even though my degree is in elementary education, I have always had a desire to teach math.
As I homeschooled my three children, I began to become more proficient in Math. I studied to keep ahead of them and taught two of my children trig/ advanced Math. I also began to teach other homeschool students. I firmly belief that to progress inn Math you need feedback and a teacher who can identify where you are thinking incorrectly about the problem.
If a teacher only reinstructs, the student thinks they understand but often goes back and makes the same mistake. This changes when the student is helped in finding where he or she was thinking wrong in addition to further instruction. I have tutored using a variety of curriculum and am open to any resources or suggestions from students or parents.
I have been tutoring Math students since 2005. I love teaching/tutoring High School Math and ACT prep. It is a joy to see students progress and understand the Math they are doing. I have taught classes of homeschool students Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, and Advanced Math that included some Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. I have also tutored students in the same subjects. I am proficient in Coordinate Geometry and Plane Geometry that is on the ACT. I am also tutoring a student on Intermediate College Algebra. I want to benefit the students I help as much as possible.
ACT Math - I tutored in a program for students whose parents had never been to college at Montevallo University for a few years. I have tutored many students privately for the ACT - some who just needed to get a score high enough to enter college - others were trying to improve their score to get a scholarship. Several students have made a 30 for their score while many have scored at some level of scholarship potential. I have taught and or tutored Algebra I, Algebra 2, Prealgebra and Precalculus yearly to homeschool students. I have tutored Intermediate College Algebra.
I am easy to reach and will try to provide a fast response. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
ACT qualifications - I have tutored many high school students. Many have gotten a score leading to a scholarship.
I have been tutoring Algebra I for the past 17 years. I help students understand the basics, solving equations, inequalities, linear equations, solving linear systems, exponents, polynomials and quadratic equations, solving and graphing quadratic equations, radicals and rational exponents, and rational expressions. Through consistent practice, students grow in their confidence and ability to complete Algebra I.
With 17 years of experience, teaching and tutoring Algebra II, I am able to help students reach their full potential in this subject. I help students understand equations and inequalities, linear equations and functions, linear systems and matrices, quadratic functions, linear systems and matrices, quadratic functions and factoring, polynomials and polynomial functions, rational exponents and radical functions, exponential and logarithm functions, and rational functions, trigonometric ratios and functions, trigonometric graphs, probability and statistics, sequences and series. With consistent practice, students gain confidence and ability in Algebra 2.
I teach High School PreCalculus using Advanced Saxon Math book. It covers subjects such as exponentials, logarithms, complex numbers, equations & inequalities (inc. systems of equations & inequalities), functions, lines (inc. slopes), polynomials (inc. the quadratic equation), geometry, basic matrix operations, trigonometry, word problems, basics of statistics and probability, and proofs.
