About Cherie

My expertise and passion for working with students of all ages started when I was in high school as I frequently mentored and tutored peers and even students who were older than myself . Throughout the past 45 years I have regularly worked with students in small groups and individually in a wide variety of subjects and settings. I have completed classes and had training to work with elementary, middle and high school students as well as those with special needs. I have a great deal of patience and the ability to pinpoint comprehension problems with students who often do not know how to ask for help or realize what they need help with. I love to use a variety of approaches to find a style or method that works best for each individual student.

After graduating from St. Petersburg College in Florida in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Technology Education, I moved to the Alabaster area to be close to my daughter and grandchildren. I have worked steadily over the past 7 years as a preferred substitute teacher in Shelby County and Alabaster City Schools, doing long term substitute assignments as an 8th grade math teacher, a 7th grade math teacher, a 7th grade special needs aide, and a high school special needs aide. My availability for tutoring is very flexible to fit your needs. I can meet you locally or online any weekday evening between 3:30 - 9:30 PM or any time on Saturdays and Sundays if preferred.

I look forward to learning about the specific needs of your student and helping that student gain confidence, improved study habits and better grades.

Math has always been my favorite subject and through many years of tutoring students in various mathematical subjects, I have perfected many techniques that help a student quickly master weak skills and gain confidence as they approach new material.

Approved subjects

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Doing the "Impossible": Making Math Fun! — Cherie taught my daughter elementary math. She helped her with her homework and identified a pattern of mistakes that my daughter has been making. She said that she will reteach this to my daughter. She also gave my daughter a bellringer in order to get her accustomed to middle school math. She makes learning math fun for my daughter and, after two lessons, I am beginning to see my daughter's ...
